Rotting and Shining (2023)
Ahsen Uncler, 16, Waterloo Collegiate Institute
(acrylic on canvas)
This piece was a product of the idea, “rotten things might seem pretty". The rotten part represents the evil in nature and how it rottens people too when they choose to be in that part of life. On the other hand, the normal pomegranate part represents choosing to help yourself and others by acting the right way. The red ribbon is to show that goodwill will spread around the world. Also, pomegranates represent death in some cultures. Therefore, I thought it would be a good fruit to choose since some people believe we will be separated for our actions as heaven and hell. The rotten part is hell and the normal part is heaven.
