What I learned from my chosen approach is that working on a mixed media project is good practise for a person to work with multiple different materials and to learn how to work with them combined.

The subject matter or the concept was about time and global warming. The style that was utilized in this work, is a realistic-ish front (the earth and hourglass) and an abstract background.

Some aspects of the project I found challenge were painting the background of the project because I had to be careful in certain spots to keep to the design as well as mixing the paint to try to produce more of the same color. Shading with colours was tricky as well. I usually prefer to shade with lead/graphite but it was good practise. I believe that the background and the shading of the earth were quite successful considering they turned out better than I anticipated.

The dominant principles of this piece are form, colour and value since there’s the earth and the hourglass and the abstract background which creates form. Colour and value are important with this piece since the different blues and greens contrast against the reds, oranges and grays of the background symbolizing the process of something melting. I have used contrast and emphasis most, for the principles of design, with the light coloured earth and darker coloured background as well as the shades of colour. If I ever did this project again with the same design, I would’ve probably had the earth and hourglass a darker and more vibrant colour.
